This project is supported by ADEME, the French Government and EDF Group, whose involvement has been
instrumental in enabling this clean-energy-to-water Breakthrough for Mayotte. During the past year, Nereid has been working closely with the Prefecture, Government agencies, EDM (EDF Group) and local authorities to deliver a long-term solution to Mayotte’s drinking-water crisis. By reducing the carbon
footprint of EDM’s thermal power plant, this approach links water security directly to the island’s clean-energy transition. The water produced is 100% carbon-free while also reducing the plant’s overall emissions — a perfect synergy between energy transition and next-generation decarbonized drinking-water production.
This marks a vital breakthrough for the island and a replicable model for all French maritime territories. We extend our sincere thanks to all partners who contributed to making this framework agreement possible.
